After recently posting how rare it is to catch a newborn smiling, I catch another one! What can I say? Babies love having me photograph them ;) This family was great to work with, especially because they left me to work with baby for most of the session while they were off doing their own thing. Sometimes I (half jokingly) tell my newborn photography clients to think of me as a couple hours of babysitting. I understand some parents are a little nervous and not as comfortable being far from their new baby, but it usually results in better images when I have space to work. Not only is it easiest for me when I’m able to freely move and pose the baby, but it often keeps baby calmer when parents are not close by where baby can hear and smell them. I enjoyed photographing this pregnancy session in Portland. The little girl was an absolute doll…at her age, I wouldn’t say she was “easy” to photograph, but as she chatted me up for most of the session I couldn’t help but feel completely charmed. I’m really looking forward to going back for the newborn session. In the meantime, here’s a quick sneak peek at a couple of the maternity portraits…
I photographed this family when the little boy was just a few months old, and was thrilled when they called for a family and child photography session with their newest baby girl. Not only is this family gorgeous (obviously!) but they are also really great people. I especially enjoy working with repeat clients. The third daughter in the family, this precious newborn baby was a joy to photograph. I tend to work best when parents trust me to “do my thing” and that was definitely the case with this newborn photography session in Washington. I’ve worked with this family in the past, and it is always my pleasure to photograph their adorable children. Here’s a sneak peek from this portrait session…a rare smile. I get lots of smiles from babies and older children, but a smile from a newborn is really just luck – and a photographer quick on the shutter button 
This little guy had chunked up sooooo much since his newborn portrait session, and it’s amazing how much personality you begin to see at 3 months old. After a great maternity session with this couple back in January, I was so excited to photograph their newborn baby. Although she didn’t really want to sleep, I worked my “magic” and got some wonderful sleeping newborn images, as well as some with her eyes open. Look at what a pretty baby she is! I’m a little behind on the blogging (no big surprise there!), but I’ll try to at least catch up with a few recent sessions. Not really a sneak peek since this family has already ordered from their portrait session, but this little guy is so cute I had to share. I’ve been photographing this family since he was in his mommy’s tummy, and I absolutely LOVE my loyal, repeat clients that invite me to share in the experience of watching their kids grow up. I typically only see clients once or twice a year, so it’s always a treat to see how the kids have grown and changed since I last saw them. We decided to do part of the session in their home using my portable studio setup, and when the rain let up a bit we went outside so he could show off his fireman outfit. So cute!! Before the session, the parents had indicated that what they most hoped I’d capture was his smile. I’ve got such a cool job! I can’t help but smile when I see this little guy smile
